Daria Lavrova (1980) is a graphic artist and illustrator, living and working in Amsterdam since 2017.
After a few years, Daria Lavrova left her career as a lawyer and started working at the animation studio, switching afterwards to the fascinating world of children's book illustration. Her illustrations can be found internationally. Illustrating children's books stimulated her to use a range of new techniques and media. She started working with colored pencil, chalk and pastel, which are suitable for quick sketches, especially outdoors. Later, her technique also includes oil painting and watercolor on paper to linocuts.
In recent years, her artistic style has been based on the tradition of analytical drawing and is influenced by cubist and constructivist directions. The central idea is to reveal the inner lines of force and connections, which lie beneath the surface and form the composition, hold the artistic work together and thereby retain the inner energy of the depicted scene, regardless of what it is - a still life or a landscape. It does not mean pure abstraction, but rather a search for an optimal amount of details to depict the scene. By observing the environment, according to Daria, an artist carefully chooses what exactly forms the object, how many lines are enough to draw it in a most recognizable, witty and fascinating way. And every work of art should involve the audience in this visual journey, inviting them to look around in an unusual way.
Urban and industrial aesthetics are now the main source of inspiration and the core theme of her work. Perspective, grids and pure geometric shapes and lines offer the viewer's eye a peculiar view that travels through each composition, sometimes breaking through to pure abstraction and the same freely returning to the familiar objects, enjoying their order and functionality.
A number of her works have found their place in museum collections in Russia and the Netherlands.
She is an active member of several art groups and associations: ExitArtAmsterdam gallery, Arti et Amicitae Artists Association in Amsterdam, IJKunstCollectief, 10x10artist group:
